Rob Clarke | Technical Auditing Manager

"Our team of experienced auditors have the benefit of seeing the sites with a fresh pair of eyes. They assess the site without having to juggle other roles and responsibilities onsite. We can show good practices as well as areas of improvement."

What does your role involve?

I manage a team of Technical Auditors who carry out the Site Quality Reviews.

We have regular meetings to discuss current industry trends and to ensure consistency in our reporting.

How long have you been involved in the industry and Site Quality Reviews in particular?

I have been in various construction roles for over 25 years in both legislative roles and contracting positions and have been working on the Site Quality Reviews since 2021.

What would you say are the key benefits of an SQR for developers and builders?

Our team of experienced auditors have the benefit of seeing the sites with a fresh pair of eyes. They assess the site without having to juggle other roles and responsibilities onsite.

Through the feedback session and via the produced report, we can show good practices as well as areas of improvement. This can be vital to a national house builder when you are trying to maintain quality and consistency over various sites.

What advice would you give customers ahead of the next 12 months?

With the anticipated slowdown in house sales, the industry has the opportunity to do deep dives into site practices and understand how quality results are achieved.

With the changes the New home Ombudsmen will bring, now is the time to look at quality.

In your time in your role, what changes have you seen in the industry?

The pressure on developers to produce quality homes has increased, along with delays to materials and labour resources has created an environment where perceived poor quality reaches social media.

Now more than ever is the time to focus on quality.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the challenges that we have to affect change and alter people’s mind-sets.

Quality often starts with the site setup, ensuring materials are stored correctly and that the trades have access to up to date drawings.
